I would like an independent panel review the benefits package currently provided. I believe they should be the same benefits as the rank-and-file Federal employees receives. How can members of Congress fully understand the impact their legislation has on the average person when they have not felt the restrictions those laws place. Most members of Congress leave service as millionaires. Very few average Federal employees could make that claim. Congress should also have to participate in the same Health and Life Insurance coverage as Federal employees do, then perhaps we would have our benefits enhanced.

If Congressmen truly believe in ethics, then let them take the high road and deny pensions or further benefits to those found guilty of criminal misconduct. It is time that these elected officials remember who put them in office. Their inappropriate conduct needs to have serious consequences that will discourage others. At the present time, our capital city is a quagmire or corruption, partisan politics, and dishonesty -- ALL funded at the taxpayers' expense. These politicians are no better than the CEOs who rob pension funds from their employees!!!

How fair is it that non-government employees convicted of felonies get to keep their ill-gotten wealth? If Kenneth Lay is convicted of bilking thousands of hardworking men and women out of their retirement benefits (he made billions for himself, which, we can assume, are safely stashed away) will he have to give up that money when he gets out of prison? I seriously doubt it. A more fitting punishment for him than prison would be to strip him of ALL his wealth and force him to live, homeless, on the streets of Denver or New York (away from DC where he could influence congressional representatives). And that's my opinion!!!

IF the GS 12 and below comit a crime, take away their pension and their citizenship, that will allow them to receive all the benefits that they paid in to throught thier career by being alien. They might get the SS, medical, and other benefits they supported all their working life, as well as a free education in jail! Sorry though, they won't be invited into the royal gym that congress has.

what a novel idea!

This should not be tolerated in America. If "any" of our elected officials on Capitol Hill are convicted of wrong doing, taking bribes, etc, they should loose their federal pension. If they were more ethical, then they wouldn't put themselves in these situations. They are not above the law! I sometimes think they believe that "they" are a special class and can get away with anything they desire! This is not good for America's future. Let's clean it up now!!

Find me a politician that will provide a honest days work for a honest days pay, and that might make me believe in our congressional system again. Well I remember when we got rid of all their government paid limo's, talk about cry babies. Bottom line, we the public wants something done for them, it takes forever to clear congress, yet when congress wants something for them, it flys through the dead of night without any barriers, hence their pay raises, benefits packages and so forth. Needless to say you can't trust anyone from DC (DC stands for "Delegated Corruption"
So alas "There you go!"

Honestly, I dont think members of congress are going to pass any kind of legislation that will effectivly restrict their ability to wring the congressional shammy? I think after the current scandals have slipped by Americas short attention span they (congress) will go back to doing business the way it has always been done. Some will try to attach their names to some lame useless piece of legislation all in the name of "reform" kind of like keeping the lobbyists out of the gym. It must be difficult to get a good cardio while lobbyists are stuffing money into their gym shorts. I dont know.
