We the people. I think an important watchword is that Obama pledged to give the country back to the folks who it rightfully belongs to. He has done so with Chrysler and is in the process of doing it with GM. Once that is accomplished, the people will begin to own more and more of the Federal departments and agencies. I see bargaining being bypassed in favor of co-management. We once longed for the days when the mine executives would have to squat in the shafts carrying their canary cages and wearing their little headlight helmets. Drat. It did not come to pass. maybe it will in the Federal government with the messiah.

I have known and thought this for years...and I used to work for the FLRA! Do you actually think the President actually knows what the FLRA is? Sure he knows what the NLRB is, he is a lawyer. But if you asked him, what do you think of the current status of the FLRA...my bet is he does not know what it is. It is a small fish in a big pond and like you said, federal unions have no ability to "deliver the vote" so this is not likely to change. And FYI, I don't think Bush or Clinton would have known this either! That is why issues at the FLRA, including a new GC and a new Member are not a priority.

There's also the fact that the Federal unions cannot strike. Given that, there is really no impetus for urgent action with regards to the FLRA, since work will continue no matter what. If this were the private sector and plants were being shut down awaiting action by NLRB, there might be more of a sense of urgency.

Dear attorney-
Well, someone in the Bush II Whitehouse certainly knew about the FLRA and Fed sector bargaining law. It was Mitch Daniels, now Indiana Gov. One of the first things my man Mitch did as gov was to do away with public sector bargaining in Indiana state government.

Executive orders come and go but legislation tends to be more permenant. Maybe this issue won't be decided by the President, because he is awaiting congressional legislation. Now that would really make Gilson's blood broil!

It seems Mr. Gilson is the one creating a story where one is not. Maybe what he said is true about the Unions not being able to carry the Union vote, but that is secondary, even if they could carry the Union vote. We are fighting a war in 2 countries, bailing out banks, assistance to auto makers, swine flu, etc. Like any other lobbyist on the Hill. Presidential pay backs will happen, its just a matter of timing.

The mega-dose of sarcasm in the article, & all additional views, stiffles any effort to accept them as legitimate. It all appears like former Vice President R. Cheney pronouncing how unsafe we are now. Neither carry any credibility in my view!!

I am pleased that "...your opinions are yours...and yours alone!" You refer to President Obama in such a "negative tone" until I'm almost sure you're an "age-old conservative, upper-income, pull-yourself-up-by-your-boot-strings, Republican"...
As I recall, the previous administration left this country in such a mess, that it may take generations to dig out of THESE disasters!...
So, please excuse "OUR PRESIDENT"… the 43rd President of the United States, "the Honorable Barack Obama”, if it takes him a little more than 100 days to getting around to addressing and signing the "precious disasters" of Federal Labor Partnership Executive Orders!"

I'm hoping some day for a comment from someone who has read the entire article. If you think I was disrespectful, have you read the Washington Post or NY Times lately?
Here's a quote from Winston Churchill to take to heart:

Of course there is another quote that is used more often, I think. "What's one man's pain is another man's pleasure."

Politicians routinely fail to deliver on campaign promises.
These developments shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Hopefully they will try some originality. Having been a union officer prior to during and after partnership, it wasn't all some built it up to be. Some managers went overboard and some just didn't participate except when forced. There has to be a better version. The union can be just as big a click as mgmt and they aren't elected because of their aptitude. They don't represent many and they whine alot about issues that don't really exist. But I'm a supervisor and neither mgmt nor union care about my issues. Yes, I would like some cheese with that. :-)
