It’s that time of year again – the season of giving is right around the corner. The best days to shop for holiday deals are Black Friday and Cyber Monday (the weekend after Thanksgiving), according to U.S. News.

If you’re a federal government employee, however, the Christmas-shopping deals are even sweeter. Special government employee discounts on electronics, travel, and more can help you spread holiday cheer without breaking the bank. Use this list to save big on gifts or holiday travel in 2018 as a federal employee.

Computers and Technology

Samsung has a Government Discount Program with discounts on the latest Samsung TVs, phones, appliances, and tablets. You can also take advantage of great trade-in programs, free shipping and low monthly payments. You will need to enter and validate a .gov email address to join the program.

Apple offers discounts to current and retired employees, contractors and family members of government agencies. This Employee Purchase Plan is intended for personal use. Government employees buying for personal use are eligible for the same discount as educational institutions — not a flat percentage, but a specific amount of dollars off depending on the model of Mac, iPad, or iPhone being purchased. The MacBook Air, for example, usually only gets $50 off, while the highest end iMacs get more like $200 off.

Your best option is to call Apple at 1–800-MY-APPLE and speak with someone on the sales team. Let them know your government affiliation up-front. Talk to them about what it is you want and they’ll set you up with the best solution at a discount.

GovX is an online discount site that offers qualified members tactical gear, outdoor equipment and apparel, athletic attire, and more. Membership also includes access to a variety of ticketing deals, such as major league sports, concerts, endurance races, and theme parks. Registration is free for qualified members, which includes active-duty or retired military members as well as Federal, state and local government employees.

The easiest way to join is by entering your .mil or .gov email address during registration. This gets you approved instantly once you have confirmed the address. If you want to register with a personal email address, you will need to provide us a copy of your military or government ID card. You’ll find all the details on how to do this on the registration form once you get started.

Once your account has been approved, you’re free to start shopping. The site currently includes about 80 brands — most products are discounted 25 percent to 40 percent. You won’t find a giant selection of brands, but you will find lots of categories to choose from. The site will keep expanding as it adds to its list, so it’s one worth watching.
