Congress Finally Resolves DHS Funding Impasse

The partial government shutdown within the Department of Homeland Security is finally over.

The House has passed legislation approved by the Senate to fund much of the Department of Homeland Security and bring about an end to the longest partial government shutdown in the country’s history.

President Trump signed the approved legislation into law Thursday afternoon.

AFGE National President Everett Kelley said in a statement that while the union was pleased to see the partial shutdown finally come to an end, he called on Congress to pass the Shutdown Fairness Act, legislation that would appropriate funds to pay federal employees required to work during a partial government shutdown, thereby effectively preventing future partial government shutdowns.
