Use of Blackberrys May Be Limited to Government Workers

The Justice Dept. has filed a brief to ensure that government workers get to keep using their wireless Blackberry e-mail–even if the service should be shut down.

How important is getting e-mail to federal employees who are away from their office?

Apparently, it is imperative. At least according to the Department of Justice.

The agency has filed a legal brief in a patent dispute involving the Blackberry wireless communications device. According to the government, there are hundreds of thousands of state and federal employees who use a Blackberry to keep up with their office work. The agency wants to ensure that their wireless service is not shut down as a result of the patent dispute.

The Justice Department wants 90 days to pull together a list of federal employees whose Blackberry devices should not be shut down–even if such an order does impact other Americans.
