All TSP Funds Move Up in April

All of the TSP funds were up in April. The biggest gainer was the I fund which was up 5.32% for the month and it up 9.88% for the year to date.

The stock market ended April with positive returns. In fact, two of the leading stock market indices hit new highs for the month.

That translates into good news for investors in the Thrift Savings Plan. All of the TSP funds were up in April. The biggest gainer was the I fund which was up 5.32% for the month and it up 9.88% for the year to date.

The C fund was also up with a return in April of 1.93%. It is up 12.74% for the year to date. Here are the results for all of the TSP funds:

As of March 2013, the FERS participation rate is now above 87% for the first time since July 2004. The civilian average account balances are climbing to the $100,000 mark with both FERS and CSRS average account balances slightly above $95,000. The average balance for FERS employees in their TSP accounts is now $95,156 and for CSRS employees it is $95,046.

The number of Roth accounts has increased over 20,000 per month since November 2012. Also, as the increase in stock market indices continue to go up, there has been a gradual shift from the G Fund to the TSP’s C, S, and L funds.

In March, approximately $1.9 billion was transferred from the G fund and about $624 million was transferred from the F fund. About $31 billion was transferred from the i fund.  Conversely, $609 million was transferred into the C fund and almost $1.2 billion into the S fund.
