How is My FEHB Premium Paid Until I Start Receiving My Pension?

I’m retiring at the end of the year. How is my FEHB premium paid until I start receiving my monthly pension?

Q: I’m retiring at the end of the year. How is my FEHB premium paid until I start receiving my monthly pension? I understand it may be a couple of months or more before I start receiving any of my pension.

A: Your FEHB premium isn’t paid out of interim pay, but you remain covered. Once your actual pension payments begin, OPM will deduct for the “back premiums”.
