The annual contribution limit for the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) will increase by 4.3% in 2026 according to Millman, an independent risk management consulting firm.
Millman estimates that the annual contribution limit for the TSP and 401(k) plans will increase from $23,500 in 2025 to $24,500 in 2026. The annual catch-up contribution limit is estimated to increase from $7,500 to $8,000 next year, a 6.7% increase.
The estimate also projects that the age 60-63 catch-up contribution limit will remain unchanged at $11,250. This special catch-up contribution limit is a provision that began in 2025 under the Secure Act 2.0. It only applies to workers aged 60, 61, 62 or 63.
This enhanced catch-up contribution limit, often dubbed the “super catch-up” limit, is set at $10,000 or 150% of the standard catch-up contribution limit for individuals aged 50 and above, whichever is higher.
For instance, the catch-up limit for individuals aged 50 and above in 2024 was $7,500. Consequently, the IRS set the enhanced catch-up contribution limit for individuals aged 60 to 63 in 2025 to $11,250.
The 2026 estimates are based on the projected increase in the Consumer Price Index for the remainder of the federal government’s fiscal year. Millman is projecting that the CPI will continue to increase by an estimated 25 basis points (3.0% annual) each month through September 30, 2025.
Past Annual TSP Contribution Limits
The 2025 TSP annual contribution limit increased by 2.2% over the 2024 limit. Increasing inflation over the last few years has driven the increases in the annual contribution limits to retirement savings plans since they are subject to annual cost of living adjustments. The limits rose the most between 2022 and 2023.
The table below shows the annual TSP limits since 2013. The annual contribution limit has increased by 34% in that time period.
