GSA Increases Mileage Rates for 2019

Federal employees who use their personal vehicles for work will be pleased to see that mileage reimbursement rates are higher in 2019.

Federal employees who use their personal vehicles for work will be glad to see that the new mileage reimbursement rates are higher this year than last year.

The reimbursement rates for 2019 are $0.58 per mile. In 2018, they were $0.545 per mile. While that may not seem like much of an increase, it is actually 6.4% higher than last year.

The reimbursement rates are published by the General Services Administration and compliment the standard mileage rates that the IRS publishes that are used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes.

Other mileage reimbursement rates listed by the GSA for 2019 include:

  • Motorcycle: $0.55 per mile
  • Automobile (if a government-furnished car is available): $0.20 per mile
  • Airplane: $1.26 per mile

The complete listing of GSA’s mileage reimbursement rates is available on the GSA website.
