State Department to Maintain Hiring Freeze

The State Department has announced it will maintain the hiring freeze despite it being lifted for other agencies.

Despite the hiring freeze being lifted for many agencies by the Trump administration this week, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has announced he intends to keep it going for the State Department.

Reuters reported the decision, citing an internal memo they obtained that was distributed by Tillerson. A spokesman for the agency confirmed the move and said that Tillerson was not breaking any federal rule by maintaining the hiring freeze.

Reuters also reported that Tillerson’s long term plans include downsizing agency staff over the next two to three years.
